My Little Big Town
MLBT was founded back in 2004 by Calvin Innes and Rikki Colrein with the aim of producing original and exciting comic books and animations. We quickly expanded into childrens literature, and later adult literature, drawing on Calvin's experience in the industry. More recently we have began working on short films and TV commercials, both live action and animated.
My Little Big Town is a relatively small publishing/animation company, with each of our members working on a semi-freelance basis. We strongly believe that creative people should be able to work wherever they feel the most creative. If office/studio space is required we have a nice (if rather small) set up in Yorkshire, UK. For the most part though our writers, illustrators, editors, (whoever) all work from home at least 80% of the time. We encourage regular networking and everyone has full clarity on whatever project the company is working on, be that a comic book, an animation or whatever! We are also very keep on our member exploring their own creativity. Illustrators, writers and animators working for MLBT are actively encouraged to embark on their own creative journeys, away from our 'work' projects.
Wherever possible MLBT looks to invest and encourage these independant projects, as this is where some of the most creative and innovative work comes from.
Calvin Innes began his career drawing storyboards for TV commercials. He worked on many popular UK TV commercials, including for Cadbury's Creme Eggs, Fruit Pastil Lollies and Giant Smarties. Looking for a little more freedom in his work, Calvin began creating illustrations for children. Several children's books followed, as well as numerous projects for the Brownies, Rainbow Guides, Girl Guides, Scottish National Trust, Sea Life Center and many many more. He then began writing and illustrating his own children's books (and continues to do so) which are still available throughout the world.
While Calvin still regularly illustrates and writes for children, most of his time is now taken up drawing (and writing) comics. He has created a number of comic book titles, many of which are available through My Little Big Town. Calvin is the man behind Billy Bob Cletis Jr, The League Of Really Bad Superheroes (LORBS), Barley, Cat On The Moon, to name a few. He is also the illustrator behind the adult comic book 'Madge's Vadge.
Rikki Colrein is an award winning script writer. His background is in theatre and independant films, having won awards for his two-hander play 'And The Point Is' (shortly to be adapted into a comic book by MLBT). Rikki is a prolific writer in a whole variety of different genre. Comedy, horror, drama, thriller, his writing has that rare quality of being truely original.
My Little Big Town is always on the look out for new projects to work on, and new talent to work with.
