Pirates don’t play cricket, or do they….
This fantastically funny, sporty and swashbuckling picture book for children features a host of hilarious pirates, a treasure chest full of gold, pirate ships, a parrot…. oh, and cricket! Avast there me hearties!
When Dan and Priya are out walking near the beach one day they spot a band of rag-tag, snarling pirates down below on the sand. Much to their surprise, the pirates are in the middle of a game of cricket. They’re not very good but they’re trying!
After discovering that the pirates aren’t as frightening as they first seemed to be, Dan and Priya join in the game. Before long the children and the pirates are enjoying an exciting (and very silly) game of cricket… that is until they spot the evil pirates ship on the horizon.
Dan & Priya, along with their new friends must repel the bad pirates in any way they can. With a swashbuckling combination of teamwork, flaming coconuts, cannons blazing and cutlasses flashing a mighty battle ensues.
Featuring bright, colorful and vibrant illustrations by award winning children’s illustrator Calvin Innes.

He played first class cricket for Wellington, the Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Middlesex County Cricket Club. Iain is a regular contributor to the BBC and Sky cricket commentary teams.
“I had had so many people tell me I should write a book about my time as a cricketer. My dealings with playing, injuries, travelling, retiring, depression, un-retiring, injuries, retiring… I thought I’d do something different. Something really different. I wanted to write children’s books. I had some ideas and started to work on them and then came across Rowan Gibson and together we have created some fun for you. Quirky. Energetic. Diverse. Three reasons why we’re really looking forward to creating a successful partnership with Calvin Innes and My Little Big Town.”
Rowan Gibson is a first time children’s author, teacher and mother of a young son.
“I believe very strongly in the stories that Iain and I are creating so it was important that we found a publisher who really enjoyed our work and saw the potential in it. One of the attractions of My Little Big Town was their enthusiasm and innovation when it came to new approaches such as the digital world. When we met Calvin Innes, he struck me as the sort of guy who would devote real energy and drive to making our stories a success. I’m thrilled to be working with MLBT, and I think that this partnership will go far. Writing thesem stories with Iain has got me far more into sports than I’d ever imagined. Hopefully reading them will encourage you – and the little Pirates, Princesses or indeed Pirate Princesses in your life – to do the same.”
